FALSE: There are two different calibrations, Human or Animal, as well as different models for each.
Unfortunately yes, there are companies claiming to sell Dual Calibration. Unfortunately, those still to this day, do not exist. The instruments being sold quoting "dual calibration" are all human calibrations. There is only one distributor in the world that owns the rights to the Animal Calibrated Technology. The company that owns the rights to the Animal Calibrated Technology is Animal Therapy Systems located in California. I have attached a link below to their website.
FALSE: Unfortunately this is false. The only therapists who have access to animal calibrated instruments are "ATS" Certified Therapists and they would have had to complete an extensive 100hr training course and pass there two step exam process.
Double edged sword for this one! In 1990 the only units available were Human Calibrated. So yes, they did use those on animals. However, as time goes on, we know that all things must become more advanced and fine tuned to actually become a specialist in your field. Animal Calibrated units went under extensive scientific research to better understand animal tissue and its healing properties. While we do know there are many similarities between animal and human tissue, there our also many differences. The Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse is designed to read the cellular level of animal cells and tissue, report it back to the biofeedback technology in the Acuscope so that it can decide whether or not to deliver current to that region and display the readings for recording. The computer processors within the animal calibrated Electro Acuscope and Myopulse Therapy Systems are pre programmed with the specific information pertaining to animal cell function. When you are wanting to fine tune and safely speed up recovery, attention to detail is a must.
Animal Therapy Systems better known as ATS, which you can find at the website in the link above, is the only distributer of both Animal specific and Human specific Calibrated units. They do require a rigorous 100hr approved training, along with written and oral exams. ATS does hold their therapist to high standards in the industry and does their best to ensure everyone is following proper protocol. ATS does not indorse any therapists who chooses to step out of the scope of their practice and not abide by FDA and manufacturer's specification and recommendations for the instruments. So be extremely picky when hiring a therapist. Other companies selling used equipment or Human Calibrated units only require a vague 2-3 day class and some have been known to just send training DVD's in the mail. To clearly understand the anatomy of certain animals and specialize in treating injuries does require the therapist to truly have the self control to continue education and work with the veterinarians in their area to fine tune their skills.
There are three ways you can check:
1st - You can call Animal Therapy Systems at 800-544-8957 or email them at animaltherapysystems@gmail.com and let them know the name of the therapist you are interested in choosing.
2nd. Inquire within the facebook group ATS Certified Animal Acuscope Myopulse Therapist Locator.
3rd. You can ask the therapist for the serial numbers on the back of their equipment (it's an 11 digit number). No excuses "it doesn't have one or it's faded". There will be a number to send in to ATS and they will verify with the manufacture all of the history on the unit and what it is calibrated for.
This can make or break a session and the patient's recovery results. If the therapist is certified through Animal Therapy Systems they will only be using a green or yellow gel (yellow if it is an FEI sanctioned event) called EquiSol 2000 and personally distributed through ATS. If they are not certified, or do not have the proper training or equipment, they will most likely be using some form of Ultrasound Gel, and in some cases, water. Ultrasound gel although it does transmit current it is used specifically for sound wave technology only. Just as ultrasound technicians' must use the gel specific to sound waves, acuscope therapist must use the gel specifically formulated for their technology.
The gel formulated for this equipment has undergone extensive studies through the FDA to ensure its way of transmitting current through the body is safe and pain free for the patient. The only way to ensure that the bioofedback readings and treatment will be completely accurate and effective is by using this gel. Any Other types of treatment soultions will absoultyly compriose the safety and efffectiveness of the treatment. Please email me and I will happily send over the scientific research and comparison on types of gel and how they transmit current to the body.
The Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse Therapy System is by far completely different than all other forms of electrical stimulation on the market.
1st - This is the only therapy system offered with Biofeedback capabilities ( Yes, the only one )
2nd - It is the only therapy to be completely customizable in all aspects per patient's individual needs for all types of rehabilitation.
3rd - It is also the only therapy to use non/fixed output microcurrent as its wavelength. All other units utilize macroccurrent and yes there is a difference in the two.
Religiously at events, I get 2-3 people coming up to me saying I have used it and didn't really see any change. There are a couple of things that could have happened here.
1st - Did the therapist treating go over a realistic treatment plan with yourself and the attending Veterinarian for current and long term maintenance sessions?
2nd - Did the therapist have Animal Calibrated Units in proper condition, and was she/he properly trained and in good standing or did she/he buy used equipment and train themselves?
3rd -Did she/he do a full evaluation and take readings throughout the patient's body to help pinpoint areas of cellular dysfunction? The importance of a full evaluation is pinpointing the origin of an issue as well as locating secondary issues.
4th - Were all of her/his gel, electrodes, cords, purchased from Animal Therapy Systems to ensure no electrical interferences are happening? Often people will purchase aftermarket electrodes, wires from Amazon or Best Buy. They may also use ultrasound gel because it's half the cost but yet want to charge you full price for a session and tell you that none of that matters and it will still work properly.
Please, if you have ever had an unsatisfactory experience with the Electro-Acuscope Therapy System, either myself, the Founder of Animal Therapy Systems ( WPRA NFR Qualifier Joyce Jackson) or Molly Wells (ATS instructor) would be extremely happy to answer any questions or concerns you have had in your past experiences. and work with you and your patient to achieve the best long term benefits possible.
STOP!!!!! Let's Slow down and think about this. When you start a diet are you instantly 10lbs lighter or the healthiest person on earth after the 1st day? The 2nd day? No you're not, so it would be unreasonable to think that one session is going to change the entire structure of your horse during the most intense time of his training? When working with ATS Certified Therapist's following proper protocols of starting a patient with an evaluation following three consecutive treatment sessions called a "Start up Series", your patient will have had an honest start. In order for these to be effective they need to be back to back 3 days in a row or 1 session every 12 hours. This is to get your patient established, get a good charge on the cells and learn of possible areas of cellular dysfunction. Remember this is a cumulative therapy meaning we need multiple sessions for your patient to start the process of recovery.
According to the laws of science and how current works doing so actually doesn't have any benefit. To place a therapy of a different waveform on top of the Acuscopes waveform (microcurrent) means that both modalities' sessions would basically be canceled out and have diminished effectiveness. To respect each therapy that you are wanting to use we must allow the body the amount of time it needs to work effectively with each separate modality. The Electro Acuscope and Myopulse Therapy System should not to be used any less than 72 hours prior to or after other therapies are used. It is also not recommended to Bath the patient 24hrs after an acuscope session, yes that means putting them back out in the rain as well.
The manufacturer's of the Electro Acuscope and Myopulse Therapy System have found in their research on how current works, that the metallic base of duct tape has an effect on the way the current travels to the body and can scatter the signal causing confusion in the biofeedback technology of the units.
